Hurricane Season and Thunderstorm Awareness

During hurricane season from June to November, thunderstorm activity in the area is more frequent. Ensure to stay informed and prepared during this time of year.

Hurricanes are dangerous and can cause major damage from storm surge, wind damage, rip currents and flooding. They can happen along any U.S. coast or in any territory in the Atlantic or Pacific oceans. Storm surge historically is the leading cause of hurricane-related deaths in the United States.

Thunderstorms are dangerous storms that can bring heavy rains, strong winds, hail, lightning, and tornadoes. The heaviest volume of severe thunderstorms in Louisiana occurs from April through September.
